About Babbacombe
The small areas of Babbacombe & St Marychurch in Torquay are villages in their own right and boast a delightful alternative to Torquay town centre, with independent shops, a wide range of tea rooms and restaurants, stunning sea views and a number of attractions, including the Babbacombe Model Village, Babbacombe Theatre and near by, the world famous Kents Cavern.
Perched at the summit of our red sandstone cliffs, Babbacombe has a colourful promenade following the Babbacombe Downs, enjoying absolutely stunning coastal views across Lyme Bay and beyond to Dorset.
Oddicombe Beach can be reached by foot down a steep, wooded lane, or you can choose an easier descent on the Babbacombe Cliff Railway. One of only a few working funicular railways, the Babbacombe Cliff Railway has been transporting visitors up and down the cliff face since 1926. A short stroll from Oddicombe Beach leads to Babbacombe Beach and the Cary Arms Pub.
Babbacombe is a charming beach set beneath the cliffs at Babbacombe Downs and is operated by a private company. The promenade on Babbacombe Downs is known as the highest in England and has fabulous views. An interesting place to explore with rock pools, cliffs and walks. There is a pretty lane down to the beach which is very steep with some parking level adjacent to the sea.
Avron House is also within walking distance of Torquay United Football ground.
The coastline is ideal for walkers. The South West Coast Path is just as good for short walks and gentle strolls as it is for long-distance walking.
